Step by Step Guide to studying abroad

Here is a step by step guide to studying abroad.

1. Finalizing Course to Studying Abroad

The first step to starting your abroad education journey is to know what you need to study. This is extremely crucial because not only will this define your study abroad journey but also professional life. While we have seen students being focussed since childhood on their career goals, the majority of students are confused or even clueless regarding the same. Keep in mind that selecting a course for the sake of having more scope or job opportunities is never recommended, especially when you are looking to study abroad. We would always recommend taking a course in which you are talented and passionate.

2. Finalize Country & University for Studying Abroad

The second step in the guide to studying abroad is finalizing the country and university. Find out about the countries, the top universities, the courses that they offer and even more so of the individual course curriculum and contents of each of these. You can get in touch with the academic team or head of the department of these universities and get your questions answered. Look out for tuition fees, intakes, admission requirements and scholarship options for each of the courses to make an informed decision.

3. Prepare and give exams needed for Studying Abroad

Once you have shortlisted the course, country and universities, it would be a good start to understanding the admission and exam requirements. Most universities abroad require Indian students to appear for an English language proficiency test like IELTS, TOEFL or PTE. Besides, universities may also require you to give GRE, GMAT, SAT or ACT depending on the level of the course and the country. Preparing and giving the exam recommended before you begin applications.

4. Documentation for Studying Abroad

Each university and course would require you to submit a list of documents for the admission. You will need to understand the list and arrange for documents. In addition to the general documents like academic mark sheets, exam results, the passport you will also require the following documents for the application.

Transcripts

Letter of Recommendation (LOR)

Statement of Purpose (SOP)

Update Resume/ CV

Most universities have an application fee of about 2500-7500 INR. You will need to arrange to pay this for the application purpose.

5. Offer Acceptance

Congratulations! Once this far and you will have received your offer letter which would state the university offering you a place in the program for the required intake. Many times, universities will give you a deadline ranging from 15 days to a few months to accept the offer and confirm your place. The universities may also require you to pay a deposit amount ranging from 50,000 INR to first year’s tuition fees while confirming your seat.

6. Student Visa process

With the offer in place and accepted, you will now begin the process of applying for the student visa. Each country requires the student to have a valid student visa to be able to enter and commence studies in the country. Ideally, apart from the documents stated above and the letter of acceptance, you will need financial stability documents while applying for a student visa. The visa assessment officer will look for your ability to pay not only the tuition fee but also the accommodation and living expenses for the duration

  • Evidence of Funds
  • Medical examination, if any.

7.  Accommodation

Finding out accommodation before you travel is possible now and it also recommended. Some countries need you to have booked a confirmed accommodation before applying for a student visa too. There are two broad types of options available to students, one is to have on-campus accommodation while another option is to stay off-campus in a rented house or flat.  Decisions may depend on cost, availability of on-campus accommodation, facilities, flexibility, etc.

8. Flights

We recommend booking flights well ahead of time since all the major intakes have lots of students traveling around the same time. Keep in mind the baggage allowance on different fare types to accommodate your requirements and not be up for a surprise extra cost while traveling.

9. Take off to a better future!

The excitement cannot wait, it is now time to transition to your new world. Our experts will also guide you on managing and living in the new country with a pre-departure session before you fly.
